My parents had hidden everything. They’d cashed out the account, spent it, and then, unbelievably, tried to wring more money out of me. My aunt showed me the letter—my grandmother’s last words to me, full of warmth I never got to feel. She wrote about small things she noticed—how I used to linger near her chair, how I smiled when I thought no one was watching. She had seen me. All those years, she had seen me.

I didn’t call my parents. I didn’t argue. I simply sent them a photo of that letter. I imagined the moment they opened it—the recognition, the flicker of panic, the realization that the past they buried had finally surfaced.

No words. Let them sit with the ghost of the woman who loved me more than they ever did. And this time, let the silence belong to them.
