Tony slapped his hand over the pocket too late.
Marcus’s fingers stopped just short of touching the envelope, and somehow that was worse. The restraint in his face made Tony look like a man standing on rotten ice, hearing the first crack under his feet.
“What is that?” Marcus asked.
Tony tried to smile. It came out crooked. “Receipts.”
