Victoria laughed once.

“Oh, sweetheart. I absolutely can.”

She stepped closer, her heels sinking slightly into the wet grass.

“Adrian is gone,” she said. “And whatever little fantasy you were living died with him.”

A sharp ache moved through my chest at his name.
