“The spare room is ready,” Rachel said, clipping her sentence short. “I put the extra yellow towels in the bathroom.”
“Thank you, Rachel,” I said.
“Don’t thank me,” she said, tapping her fingers against the strap of the bag. “We have a lot of work to do on your resume tomorrow.”
I sat down on the top step of her porch, the wood cool against my jeans.
